![]() ![]() They’re basically the key to all the dinosaur’s interactive features. Kids will have a blast battling enemies with this archaic ally, as they foster their imaginations and take creativity to new heights.Īrmed with three Power Pads, these small round switches help bring the Ultra T-Rex to life when kids turn them. And despite the stubby arms, (just blame genetics), kids should feel good about taking this Tyrannosaurus Rex into battle. He’s pretty much ready to go straight out of the box, but some assembly and a few batteries are required. The end of his tail is rubber-like, but the rest of him is made of hard plastic. This tyrant lizard sports a handful of exciting features and extras, including a trap door, weapon storage, a glider, a boulder launcher, a tethered projectile claw, three Imaginext figures with helmets (because safety) and accessories, four boulders, and four projectiles. But even still, there are plenty of other reasons why the Ultra T-Rex is ultra. Initially, the sheer size of this bony beast is what sets it apart. The Ultra T-Rex is formidable and confident. Now don’t tell Rex, but Fisher-Price may have just given kids that dinosaur. Rex, who was known for being insecure about his ferociousness, was always afraid that his owner, Andy, would find another scarier dinosaur to replace him. Let’s compare this dino to Rex, the plastic Tyrannosaurus Rex from the Toy Story franchise, because it gives me the opportunity to talk about Toy Story and the two have a striking contrast. What youngster wouldn’t have fun playing with a toy that’s just as big as they are? No youngster. I can only imagine how big it will feel to a kid that’s, well, kid-sized. Standing 2.5-ft tall, he’s definitely imposing-even for someone like myself who’s adult-sized. This is big and awesome and you’re pretty much going to love it.”ĭesigned for kids ages 3 and up, the Imaginext Ultra T-Rex from Fisher-Price offers some ferocious fun for young fans of the prehistoric, and it lives up to the hype its name creates. So if you’re in the market for a 2ft battle station made of dinosaur bones, look no further. If I know words like I think I know words, “ultra” is usually a good thing. The electronic features are very cool, but honestly, just flipping the beast up and down, firing the cannons, and moving the little warrior braves through the various mounts and spaces turned out to be the most entertaining. ![]() This set serves as a kinda Cadillac offering, summing up all the design features and style of the smaller sets into one really big showpiece that’s just plain fun to mess around with. These are compatible with the cannon balls from the other set- it’s a little thing, but making ammo for these things compatible with each other shows a lot of smart design, and definitely makes it easier on little gunnies who don’t have time to be bothered with things like caliber, or chasing the lava balls they launched across the yard. Once there, it’s a bit easier to access the next “action point” behind his skull, that opens his jaw and unleashes a pair of spears.Īnd just below those are a pair of cannons, very similar to the one on the Dino Fortress: Twisting this snaps the monster from his tail-out walking mode to his tail-dragging intimidation mode. Much more impressive to me and my assistant was the Rex’s rearing up feature, activated by one of the “action points” on his back. ![]() The roll feature struggled a bit for us, inside as well as outside, but I found with a little push, he would shuffle his way around. Like most big-dog Imaginext sets (and this one really is bigger than most dogs), Rex comes with a ton of features, the big two being his motorized movement and his light-up eyes and audio roaring. My helper was mostly unfazed by those kinds of implications. Like I said, there’s a definite sinister quality to it. In a turn that could be considered just a bit macabre, it appears the warrior clan constructed this monster machine using T-Rex’s spent bones and some clever, steampunk -like engineering. This T-Rex’s days as king of the lizards was probably long past, and in another clever departure from the usual Imaginext dinosaurs, this poor sucker is a lot less rampaging beast and a lot more fossilized battle station. Some assembly is required, as you might expect, but in a few minutes, I had this surprisingly sinister war machine making it’s way around the kitchen. For our last Imaginext look for this round, I got a chance to play with the signature “big ticket” set, the 2ft tall Ultra T-Rex.
